Sports Injuries in Kent: Help for Runners, Cyclists and Weekend Athletes

Hilly lanes across the Weald, muddy winter trails and long summer sportives make Kent a great place to train — and a good place to pick up an overuse injury.

The injuries we see most

In runners: Achilles tendinopathy, shin pain, runner's knee and hip or glute pain. In cyclists: low back pain, IT band irritation and neck ache from long hours in the drops. In weekend footballers and cricketers: hamstring strains and ankle sprains.

Almost all of them share one cause — load increased faster than the tissue could adapt.

Do not just rest and hope

Complete rest settles the symptoms and loses the fitness, so the injury usually returns on the second or third run back. Managed loading — reducing volume rather than stopping, then building it back gradually — works far better.

How osteopathy fits in

We assess the whole chain, not just the sore spot: a stiff ankle can cause knee pain, a locked mid-back can cause shoulder trouble. Treatment restores movement in those areas while a structured strength plan rebuilds capacity in the injured tissue.

Getting back to training

Most straightforward overuse injuries respond within three to six weeks with the right plan. We will give you clear markers for progressing your training, and be honest if a scan or a sports doctor is the better next step.
